With recent iOS 15 updates, Siri functionality on the device is surprisingly consistent for performing on-device tasks such as setting timers, alarms, reminders, and calls. In fact, making calls is something Siri has always been good at, and it also does a good job for cell calls or FaceTime calls. Now, with a new feature in iOS 16, Siri can also end calls for you, while keeping your hands free. It’s really useful if you talk a lot on the iPhone speakers or use wireless headphones like AirPods or Beats.

(To note: This is an iOS 16 feature and is currently only available as a public beta. With iOS 16 scheduled for public release in the fall, it will be available for all compatible iPhones worldwide.)

Once you have installed iOS 16, go to Settings > Siri and search > Siri hang up call and activate the “Siri hang up call“characteristic. Now say the words”Hey Siri, hang up” to put a call to bed. Of course, the caller too hear these words, which may seem a bit strange to them, but you can decide for yourself if this little clumsiness is worth this for hands free comfort and freedom.

If you don’t see this feature in Settings, it may be because your device isn’t supported. According to Apple, only iPhone 11 and above are supported. But older iPhones can use this feature with AirPods and Beats headphones that support Hey Siri functionality. Initially, this functionality is also limited to these seven languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese.
