Note on SummerSlam match cut short due to time constraints

The Ronda Rousey vs. Liv Morgan match at Saturday’s SummerSlam premium live event reportedly “had a lot of time cut” due to time constraints.

According Bryan Alvarez from The Wrestling Observer, The Miz vs. Logan Paul match lasted longer than expected, forcing WWE producers to cut Rousey vs. Morgan’s fight for the SmackDown Women’s Championship short.

While The Miz’s match against Paul lasted 14 minutes and 15 seconds, Rousey’s match against Morgan lasted 4 minutes and 34 seconds.

WWE also aired several video packages between the four hours of SummerSlam, featuring career highlights from superstars such as Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair and Kevin Owens. Alvarez noted that the video packages also contributed to Rousey’s match against Morgan being cut short.

Most of the SmackDown Women’s Title match was built around Rousey inflicting damage on the champion’s arm, forcing the coach to repeatedly check Morgan. As she continued to attack Morgan’s arm, Rousey locked the armbar, but Morgan got up to plant Rousey’s shoulders on the mat for a decisive victory. However, Morgan had tapped before the referee counted to three, which advertisers acknowledged during the live broadcast. After the match, a furious Rousey destroyed Morgan and put her in another Armbar. When the referee tried to restrain her, Rousey did the same to her, forcing WWE officials to do a run-in to restrain her.

The post-game angle basically established Ronda Rousey’s heel turn. Seeing as she got her hands on a WWE referee, she’s likely to be suspended or fined for her actions on “SmackDown” this coming Friday. With Becky Lynch turning babyface on the same night, many fans on social media are hoping for the long-awaited Rousey vs. Lynch match on the road.

Becky Lynch has gone babyface. Ronda Rousey turned heel. Both the same night. Construction for the WrestleMania 39 main event has begun. #Slam summer https://t.co/s6uyqFIMHT
