Comments of Friday Giants Practice.
Prevention is better than cure
They called it a blue-white scrimmage Friday night at MetLife Stadium, but no live tackles were allowed by the Giants’ first and second teams. It was a good move by first-year head coach Brian Daboll. Sometimes scrums can get overheated, with players being too anxious to hit someone. Reducing the risk of injury was the way to go.
The first pass thrown by Daniel Jones in the team period should have been turned into a pick six by Adoree’ Jackson. It only got a little better after that for Jones as he struggled to locate open targets and was under too much pressure and had to tuck it in and run too often.
Caught my eyes
On a third-and-8, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale brought down LB rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux’s coverage on a pass from Jones to rookie Wan’Dale Robinson for 28 yards. Having a feeling that won’t be the norm this season.
Thibodeaux all summer showed an explosive flurry as a pass thrower and he fired several holding penalties – one on LT Andrew Thomas – in the scrum.
OL rookie Marcus McKethan, a fifth-round pick from North Carolina, fell while blocking passes and had to be ejected from the field.
It was tough for new TE Ricky Seals-Jones, who missed a sixth straight practice.
WR David Sills V worked in the side, as did newly acquired DB Nate Meadors. CB Rodarius Williams and WR Robert Foster also did not train. Adoree ‘Jackson appeared to have cramps during a long drive.
