A queensland A man has revealed how he spotted a sparkling $100,000 diamond nestled in a coral reef while snorkeling on a cruise ship.

Bundaberg man Stuart said he was diving 10 years ago when he made the incredible discovery miles from civilization at sea.

Honest Stuart offered to return the magnificent piece of jewelry to anyone on board his cruise ship if they had lost it and could accurately describe it.

But since no one claimed it, he kept it to himself – and has kept the glittering rock under lock and key ever since.

Stuart told Triple M Rush Hour hosts from Queensland, Annabelle Brett and Elliot Lovejoy, the find shone to him as he snorkeled in a reef.

“I was diving, I was snorkeling around the reef and it caught my eye and I dove a little lower and grabbed it,” he said.

“The size of my fingernail was a two and a half carat diamond.”

Stuart said he could not keep the find a secret from the rest of the ship and acknowledged the find when he returned on board.

“I told them that I had found a stone, a precious stone, I said nothing more.

“But (I told them) if anyone lost it on that cruise, they can come to my cabin and if they can describe what it is, it’s theirs.

“I didn’t say more than that”

With 10 days remaining in the cruise, Stuart insisted he would have been happy to return the diamond to its owner.

“If it was theirs, it was theirs,” he said.

In the end, Stuart managed to keep the rare stone.

“No one came to ask me, so I kept it and have had it ever since,” he said.

“We valued it at $100,000.”

He said he resisted the temptation to sell it and revealed he never leaves his house, locked in a safe.

It was just the start of a lucky streak for Stuart on the cruise.

He told the show, “I played bingo for the first time in my life on this cruise and won $11,500.”
